Back-to-School Style Show

Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children held its annual Back-to-School Style Show for Baptist Home for Girls, Madill on Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at the Ardmore Convention Center. This year's theme was "Reflecting the Son."

The purpose of the Back-to-School Style Show was to create community involvement and financial support for BHG and girls in their care. More than 500 tickets were sold for this year’s show. With the money raised, a special fund will be set up to provide yearly clothing and other basic needs for the girls living at Baptist Home for Girls.

Mary, a BHG resident and high school senior, said the style show is a special time for her. “This style show is so important to me because I get to meet and talk to donors,” she said. “We get a behind the scenes look at the people that support us, provide for us and help get us on our feet.”

Mary has been a resident of BHG for two years and has seen a personal transformation in her life. “When I was first here, I was mean and had a lot of anger. But this place has helped me with that and changed my heart. I feel like I have a family here.”

At the event, attendees had the option to participate in a silent auction before enjoying lunch while BHG girls beam with excitement modeling their favorite outfits on the runway. Residents modeled both back-to-school outfits and church or professional outfits.

This Style Show was such a special moment. I was totally surprised by the people and alumni who attended and overwhelmed by their support. It was a special part of the day.

“We all come from different backgrounds, and have our own life stories that we’ve have to deal with in our past. Baptist Home for Girls helps us work through them, love us and make us better,” Mary said.

We hope to see you next year for our 2018 Style Show!
