Women of Compassion 2015

Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC) hosted its 2nd Annual Women of Compassion banquet at the historic Skirvin Hotel on Saturday, April 11.

“Our women are truly making a difference in the lives of children, born and unborn,” said Shonda Flowers, OBHC development representative.

The 2015 event theme was “Cups of Kindness.” Women from across the state gathered to worship, fellowship and listen to a dynamic speaker. Members also voted on how their funds will be invested to provide hope and homes for children and young adults through the ministries of OBHC and Hope Pregnancy Centers.

Allison Allen, former Broadway performer, was the guest speaker. Marcy Priest, worship leader and songwriter, sang and led worship at the Women of Compassion event. More

“I was thrilled to have so many new women unite with us for our 2015 vote,” said Flowers. “It is amazing that we are not only able to fund our first grant, but we are also able to fund $27,000 toward a second grant.”

The grant submission receiving the most votes for $50,000 was Boys Ranch Town’s request for new mattresses, washer and dryer pairs and a minivan. The second grant submission with the most votes for $27,000 was Hope Pregnancy Centers’ request for a media campaign.

Annual membership is $1,000 and will benefit the ministries of OBHC. The event was from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch were provided. Vendor tables were offered before and after the event.

Women of Compassion enables women to be part of gifts that are collectively larger than most women can afford to contribute individually. The organization’s goal is to reach at least 100 members each year. By reaching the goal of 100 members, Women of Compassion will be capable of awarding a $50,000 grant to one prospective ministry and the remaining $50,000 will provide much needed operating costs to OBHC.

We want to express our greatest thankfulness to the members of Women of Compassion. We are so thankful for the kingdom impact you have made for the children in the care of Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.

“And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” ~ Matthew 10:42
