Bekah* came to Hope Pregnancy Center (Hope) with her grandfather for a pregnancy test and ultrasound. She lived with her grandparents, and on her decision guide she indicated her only choice was abortion. Bekah confided to the nurse her grandmother told her not to look at any literature, watch any videos or the ultrasound screen, nor accept any pictures of the baby. Grandmother had told her to just get the ultrasound and get out quickly with proof of pregnancy.
Hope’s nurse spoke softly about how developed and active the baby was and informed Bekah she was 17 weeks pregnant. Bekah would not look at the ultrasound screen. The nurse explained to her only she had the right to make decisions about her pregnancy, and it was illegal for anyone, even a family member, to pressure someone to have an abortion. Bekah asked if she could see the baby. With tears in her eyes, she said she could feel the baby moving. Bekah began to reveal more of her story. She was scared and said she would be kicked out of her grandparent’s home, because they were not going to help raise any more children. She shared her grandmother had an abortion and said, “I made it through this, you can too.”
While at Hope, Bekah learned how Empowered Parenting classes would help her earn clothing, diapers, crib and other needs for her baby. She was assured that Hope would be there for her, and God had a plan for her and her baby. She was given a Positive Bag, a Bible and information about her legal rights. As they were leaving, the grandfather made a cash donation stating he had seen what we do and wanted to help.
Two days later, Bekah texted to say,
“I want to keep my baby. It’s mine. I made my baby by accident but she’s not an accident. She’s a part of me and I don’t want to lose her.
She said her grandmother was still upset but agreed to let her stay in the home. Bekah’s healthy baby was born July 14, 2020!
A short time later, Bekah was at Hope with her baby girl and her grandmother for a baby and family photo shoot. It was so precious to see Bekah’s grandmother holding her great-grandchild with a smile on her face! She was able to experience the love and care from the staff that her granddaughter experienced at Hope.
In December 2022, Hope held a Christmas Baby Shower for the clients currently enrolled in the Empowered Parenting program. Bekah came along with a friend who was attending the classes. Bekah stood in the lobby and recounted her journey of coming to Hope Pregnancy Center as a scared, hopeless young lady. Now here she was with a precious two-year-old daughter and living her best life ever! God is at work through Hope!
