My name is Brittany*. I grew up in a small town called Elmore City. My twin brother and I were adopted by my grandpa. My mom and dad were not around when I was growing up. My brother and I felt like we were never going to find a sense of belonging anywhere we went. Growing up without my mom was one of the hardest things I had to deal with.

In 2024, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. At the time, her father and I were homeless, and I felt so stuck. But I knew I was not alone. God has always been faithful even in just the smallest thing. He always made sure my needs were met, and in the toughest situations I could always pray to him for peace and joy when I needed it most.

After my daughter was born, my faith was put to the test. I believed I was such a horrible person and worried I would never be a good enough mother. I was struggling with drug addiction, and my daughter was put into foster care when she was born. One day, I decided I was ready to make the hardest decision I would ever have to make. I knew I needed to get my daughter back. I decided to go to a 90-day rehab program. This rehab helped single moms get their children back and learn how to parent after getting sober.

While in rehab, God was with me every step of the way. Whether I felt sad, lonely, angry or disappointed I would open my Life Recovery Bible and let God speak to me through Scripture. He helped me change the way I thought about things and gave me a sense of peace once I got my daughter back. My life was transformed.

I was coming to the end of my 90 days at rehab, and my case manager got me an interview with Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC). I knew it was the right place for me when the director and one of the moms from the program came to speak at our rehab. At first, I had anxiety about my ability to get a job and achieve some of my first steps. But the loving staff at OBHC and my church community just welcomed us with open arms. The staff at Baptist Children’s Home, Owasso have been there to help support me in whatever goals I wanted to achieve but also held me accountable when I fell short.

Since coming to OBHC, I have closed my case with DHS and have full custody of my daughter. I got my first job at McDonalds. I finished driver’s ed and got my learner’s permit and am getting ready to get my driver’s license. I have also celebrated 10 months of sobriety!

Needless to say, this program has been such a blessing and taught me there is a better way to live. You just have to want it enough and put full faith in God. He is faithful and loves us for who we are not just who we can become.
