JoeLynn moved to Baptist Home for Girls (BHG) last year. Her counselor introduced her to BHG and took her on a visit to the campus. A couple of days after her visit, JoeLynn moved to BHG. “My home life isn’t that great, and I knew I didn’t want to be there,” said JoeLynn. “This felt like home.”

Because JoeLynn graduated high school this year, she now lives in the Transitional Living program on campus. She is learning to cook her own meals, do her own laundry, and be responsible for getting to work on time. “I enjoyed living in my cottage with my houseparents and the other girls,” said JoeLynn. “But I am really excited to be in this new stage at BHG where I am learning how to step up and be an adult.”

During her high school education at BHG, JoeLynn participated in online school at the campus. “Before I came here I didn’t think I would graduate high school,” said JoeLynn. “Since I’ve been at BHG I have completed my junior and senior year in one year. I’m really proud of myself for that accomplishment.”

JoeLynn has not only grown in her education at BHG, but also in her relationship with Jesus.

“When I moved away from my home when I was younger, I got involved in some things I shouldn’t and began to turn away from God,” said JoeLynn. “Since I’ve been at BHG I have grown so much in my faith. I just want to share the gospel with everyone I can.”

JoeLynn begins cosmetology school in the fall and is excited for the opportunity to pursue a career that is tied to her interests. “As I prayed about my future, I felt like God was drawing me to cosmetology school,” said JoeLynn. “I’m a chatterbox, so I know I will enjoy a career where I can talk with people and share the gospel with them.”

As JoeLynn transitions to life outside of BHG, she looks back at her time on campus with fondness. “This is a place where you can grow in your walk with God. The houseparents – all of them – are amazing and care so much about you. This is a place where you are cared for and welcomed.”
