Child-focused campus for girls in need of a home.
Located in Madill, Oklahoma, Baptist Home for Girls is a child-focused campus, where up to eight girls are placed in a cottage-style home, under the supervision of a husband and wife serving as houseparents.
The girls enjoy day-to-day life together, from meals, to activities, chores and homework. They attend Madill Public Schools and are encouraged to participate in a variety of school and church activities. The campus has an active and therapeutic animal program, with many involved in 4-H and FFA. These programs teach girls responsibility, patience and compassion. The campus has a gymnasium, swimming pool, activity buildings plus other amenities.
Everyone on campus attends a local Southern Baptist Church. Bible studies and daily devotions are taught within the cottage. Discipline, responsibility and accountability are communicated through the lens of Biblical principles.
A plan of care for the needs of each girl and her family will be implemented upon their arrival. Its purpose is to identify the negative family behavior patterns being exhibited and help each member learn new ways of relating to each other. OBHC’s goal is to provide a Christian home environment until they can be reunited with their family, graduate from high school or become capable, caring adults.
Campus History
Since 1903, OBHC has provided a place for children in need of a home. Our desire is to help children needing assistance find hope in a time of need. In 1976, former Oklahoma Governor Raymond Gary and his wife, Emma, donated 37 acres of their ranch in Madill to help start a Baptist Children’s Home. Inspired by a little girl from Whittaker Orphanage, Gov. Gary felt led to donate his best land to help children in need. The Gary’s also donated $200,000.
Groundbreaking for OBHC’s fourth campus was held on March 5, 1977. Two cottages, the superintendent’s home, and the administration building were completed that fall. Over the next three years, three more cottages were added. In 1999, the Baptist Children’s Home became Baptist Home for Girls, the only all-girls campus among OBHC’s four campuses.
